NXP’s integrated Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS) products provide highly integrated total system solutions including power management (PMIC), MCU, communication (LIN, CAN) as well as precision analog front-end, featuring precise voltage, current and temperature measurements.
NXP’s Battery Cell Controllers (BCC) are designed for automotive applications, such as hybrid electric (HEV) and electric vehicles (EV) along with industrial applications, such as energy storage systems (ESS) and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems. Devices measure precisely differential cell voltages and current, as well as battery Coulomb counting and battery temperatures. The information is digitally transmitted through SPI or transformer isolation to a microcontroller for processing. With onboard dedicated cell balancing pins, the devices can be programmed to balance lithium cells individually. Very efficient supervision can be provided by a built-in diagnostics system.
NXP offers single cell Li-ion battery charger ICs with linear or switch mode power charging. High-end chargers include advanced feature such as dual path output for dead battery operation and dynamic power path allocation between battery and load. Simpler devices offer very cost effective solutions in very small form factor.
